My interest in Bobbin lace happened quite some time ago, say maybe 15 years. I purchase the starter set with the foam board but never opened it.Always looking to do something unique I stumbled across these beautiful bone lace bobbins with names and started collecting them. Now over 40 bobbins later I have decided to give bobbin lace a try. I am taking a class with Robin Lewis-Wild in 2014 at the JCCFS so I really hope to stay focused and actually make SOMETHING !!!
Well years later to this interest post , it never happened. I got sick and never made it to the class.
I do love old lace which I have inherited from my moms estate. The workmanship is astounding. Something I know I could ever do.
I hoarded many many wooden bobbins but now I would like to get them to bobbin lacers that actually do bobbin Lace.

What is JCCFS? On Nov. 2 there will be a lace day at the Metro NY, NJ chapter of the International Organization of Lace, the nearest chapter to Bablylon, NY. It is in Westwood, NJ, just over the Hudson in NJ. On Nov. 2 there will be demonstations of lace making and sales of equipment, threads, and books, even DVDs that are instructional. On Nov. 3, there will be several classes including a beginning bobbin lace class. So, you could begin to learn bobbin lace in 2013. Note that pre-registration is required. Here is the link to the lace day announcement.
Let me assure you that bobbin lace definitely has the potential to be a craft that requires your undivided attention. Some day you may find yourself surrounded by lighting and magnification, equipment, and diagrams, reaching for that cup of coffee as you work your way through an intricate pattern, and you will be in heaven.
