I don't remember where I got this, but it is beautiful. It is cuff-sized. Needlelace of some sort. Can anybody give me any information about this kind of work?…Continue

"I agree with Nancy. Definitely needle lace. The shapes of the motifs suggests Revival Era -- c 1890 - 1920. Possibly Venetian. The less than perfect workmanship also suggests revival era."

"Yes, needlelace, imitation of 17th C Venetian gros point, this one made around the turn of the 20th C. Was probably a cuff. Quite a pretty piece."

Piece of old lace

I posted this somewhere else, because I didn't know this group existed. Here 'tis: An old piece of unknown provenance. Needlelace. That's all I know. I do not remember where I got it except that I have inherited things from 3 old ladies over time and it was probably in some of their stuff. It is in storage and I am not at home or I would provide a closer view. …See More

Satin stitch outline tile variations

Eyelets and 4-sided stitch in middle of tiles. All in #20 Cebelia.

A practice stitch

Squares made with rows of satin stitch and then the resulting squares crossed with a heavy thread. I did the satin stitch in #10 Cebelia because I could not find the #20. So it's all the same. The pattern came from an old picture. I did not invent it.

Plum blossom done

Here 'tis. What do you think? Also, next project: Maybe the same pattern with different filling stitches. Two new pieces of linen are drying now to shrink.

Nearly done: progress report with pic

Here I've done a somewhat awkward double backstitch center - done without reading glasses and you can tell it in the closeup - and a line of chain sittch ouside the pointy leaves (one on left not done yet).

The new 5-pack of reading glasses is supposed to arrive today, so if any of them break there'll be a backup. I put them on over my regular glasses. A clip-on set of lenses would be nicer, but those things, for unknown reasons, cost in the range of $40 to $50 on Amazon!
