It's a French man who make it. but My English is too poor to explain ! His Email :

"Jean Roux"     gevaudent@free.fr  You can say that I gave you his address.

I bought them to work metal threads (very good) and after, I gave them to my blind lace maker and so, the thread stay very well on  (or in) the bobbin.

Oh shoot...I had posted something about this strange shuttle I purchased that holds two bobbins.  I deleted it, but then someone had made a comment.  So sorry.

Here it is again..  I have since found out that the shuttle brothers have something on their site explaining how to use it.  I still haven't used it myself.  I'm kind of slow on things lately....

waw, I like very much this bobbins,  where I can buy?

This is a type of bobbin very useful for a lace maker of my association (DBCC) who is blind from birth. With these bobbins, she can make lace (as you can see on the picture) nearly without my help ! The thread is inside the bobbin and can be elongated or shorter very easy. Just turn right or left the end of the bobbin.

I have got very used to using a clover one with the pointy end - pick-, and even used my original shuttle, the other day, - no pick on it, and got so frustrated, that AI unwound it, and rewound the yards of thread onto a clover type so I could get on with my work!!!! so I better not try any other types - I have one with the separate shuttle, in the middle, and a hook on one end, but...!!!!!!!

The shuttles do look a bit odd, but I now have three and one more on the way.  The one I'm getting is even a bit different, but only because of the shuttle it is using.  I was told that it will hold up to 10 yards of size 20 thread.  It looks a bit different and is being made by someone just starting.  I'll let you know more about it after it arrives.  Will tell more about it later...so far though it's working fine.

I have seen pictures those odd shuttles, Barbara. How are you getting on with it? It cwertainly looks strange!

Ed - This is always a question. I have posted a chart of thread size equivalents that I use, on my personal website, but not everybody will agree.

 http://lynxlace.com/learningbobbinlace-basics.html#threadsizes

Then there is the question of what form of lace are you making and what thread does the pattern call for.

On October 12, 2012 I wrote a long comment about how I calculate how much to reduce or enlarge a pattern to fit the thread I have on hand. That explains part of the problem.

 http://laceioli.ning.com/forum/topics/thread-change-vs-altering-pri...

For a lace like torchon, where many beginners start, the thread has to be a good match with the pattern size or it will come out very badly. This is true of any straight lace.

I still use inches, so my calculations have an extra step. If you are working with millimeters somebody else will have to suggest what thread sizes match with spaces whose distance is measured in millimeters.
