Torchon bobbin lace is a geometric lace with a mesh ground.  It is very popular with lacemakers.  Includes the 's-Gravenmoerse motif.

This is so exciting! I finally found you! I've been searching for a good solid teaching resources such as this website for so long! I have done about three inches of my lace fan and it is great fun doing it.
I was given some advice by a very experienced lace maker that was to make sure I could get the fan sticks before I started because they are not always available so I bought some straight away.
Good luck to anyone starting a fan, they are really interesting to do.Kate

Thank you both for the response - this is why I love message boards like this.  It gave me the knock on the head that I needed.  While I had immediately translated "148 fuseaux" to 148 bobbins (74 pairs) for the pattern as a whole, I had been looking at those 4's as four PAIRS, not 4 bobbins.  2 pairs at each pin hole and I was able to get it going this morning.  A little more work to confirm I've got it and I'll post a picture again soon.  THANKS!
