For mechanical geniuses -- how to build your own turning lathe, for bobbin making.

Yes, that is like the one I tried.  I did not wind it correctly, for starters, and found it a bit bulky.  Perhaps if I had stuck with it a bit more I might have managed it better, but  ....!!!  :

I really enjoyed the tatting class at IOLI, and came home with a Jumbo tatting shuttle, and some sewing needles that take thick thread, that I have never seen - or heard of before!

I found a picture of the other kind of double-bobbin shuttle.  Someone said they had instructions on how to use them in the Shuttle brother's site, but I couldn't find it.  I'm a bit tired, so maybe that's the problem. Here is a picture of the other shuttle with two bobbins. I hope this works...

I tried a Shuttle Brothers double shuttle, but did not do very well with it. I gave it to my Daughter, but I don't know how she goes with it. theirs was a different shape to this one. It was fatter/thicker, as I think the bobbins were stacked differently.

I am having trouble with the shuttle (Clover style) slipping in my fingers. I seem to not grip it tightly enough! Any suggestions that might help would be welcomed!

Barbara - would your shuttle be used for rings and bars, or what? I can't imagine how you would prevent the bobbin not being used from unwinding thread.

Barbara and Michel

Please post the photos of your shuttle and your unusual bobbins to our PHOTOS section. Then they will be easier to find in the future.  Paragraph 5 explains how to do that.

A clever looking bobbin.  Someone said it can hold 10 yards of thread, that bobbin looks small unless it's for a size above size 80 or so.  Maybe I am looking at it wrong or something...
