Some books are hard to find, and may not be necessary to own. And I don't mean bootleg books, I mean legit archival copies from reputable repositories, out of copyright, etc.

On Instagram today someone photographed their book collection, and it started a discussion about one that some of us wanted to see. It turns out, it is available in full here:

A history of hand-made lace : Dealing with the origin of lace, the growth of the great lace centres, the mode of manufacture, the methods of distinguishing and the care of various kinds of lace ...
by Jackson, Emily, "Mrs. F. Nevill Jackson,", 1861-

If it already exists, I don't want to re-create it. But new books may be coming on over time and it would be neat to find them.

I believe the closest thing we have to a general lace book bibliography is the IOLI lending library list.  It can be downloaded, and the books borrowed at a reasonable cost.  I've got the closest thing to a comprehensive bibliography for tatting at the Craft Bibliography Project at www.SomethingUndertheBed.com and I've begun creating pdfs of those things that can be made available.  I would like to create a similar bibliography for bobbin and needle lacers, but I'm limited by what I have access to.  There is also the Antique Pattern Library run by Sytske.  She's a nonprofit and struggles every year to get enough donations to keep going.  It would be nice if those of us who are able supported her better!  It looks like you've already discovered www.Archive.org, which is fast becoming another important resource.

Have you explored the Arizona.edu lace links page?  There are dozens of downloadable books and resources: https://www2.cs.arizona.edu/patterns/weaving/lace.html

Excellent--thanks for the leads, all.
