Try this video.  She goes very slow and uses thick cord.

Shows her working very slow with thick cord.  You can see her flipping the knot.

Lisa: here is a link to our TATTING group.   http://laceioli.ning.com/group/tatting

I think everyone agrees that flipping the knot is the hardest part about shuttle tatting.  Once you can do that, you are home free.  It sounds like you need some in-person lessons with a live teacher.  IOLI, the organization (as opposed to laceioli the internet group) has a website.  They break down into regions.  The regional director that includes TN in her territory might be able to give you some names.

You should post your tatting questions and comments in the TATTING GROUP.  Perhaps you haven't discovered it yet.  Look for GROUPS, near the top of the screen.  Click on that and you will see a 2 page list of all the different kinds of lace our members make.  We have a special group for tatting.  Once you are on the TATTING page, click on +JOIN (near the top, right of center).  Once you join the tatting group you can post questions there, and our tatting experts can help.

Hi!

I want to see every scrap of tatting that you make!  Things that go a little wonky are great places to learn new stuff.
