Traditional Chrysanthemum Lace

"I have heard that Chrysanthemum lace is regarded as part of Bruges Bloomwork. I am not clear on whether that is widely agreed. The half stitch areas are not a constant width. But that doesn't require extra bobbins. Half stitch expands and…"

Barbara Corbet's Flanders pattern PALE BLUE SQUARE

An arachne member, Susan Hottle  wrote in to that network, having trouble with that pattern. I looked at it and figured out the problem. She asked me to post my answer there. But that forum doesn't allow photos or images. So I've posted it here with the images, in case anybody else is having trouble with it. I still think Barbara Corbet's book is quite good and very useful."SusanYour are right. The pattern and the diagram do not match. And it isn't just a matter of how many pinholes. The…See More

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY

I am resolving to finish 2 projects I have set up. One is a Binche learning piece, which is quite difficult for me. I am intimidated by it. The 2nd is a floral Bucks which I intend to decorate a purse. (Enlarged and worked in thick thread so it will hold up to use) This one also intimidates me. I have been using my cat as an excuse, but he has calmed down.  I keep on thinking of simple projects that won't take a lot of…

Thank you for welcoming me to the group. This artifact, which was identified in the report as a bobbin, looked odd to me and I questioned whether it was actually a bobbin.  I did some additional research and it turns out to be a circa 1880-1900 bone sewing stiletto/awl.  It was found in Baltimore.  Thank you anyway and if we do find any bobbins, I will get back in touch.

Thanks for the intro. As I'm new to this I've always wanted to try bobbin lace, tried it. Did something wrong cause I ended up with a big knot so I just put it away. Now i see that bobbin lace has come back and with the marvels of technology I feel it is going to be much easier to learn.

Thanks, Lorelei,

I was already on needlelacetalk, and didn't realize I wasn't fully subscribed to the entire site. I'm sad to see the end of the Guild of Needle Laces,  but hope something similar will take its place.
