Trials and tribulations of a beginner....

Hi everyone! Just wanted to use my first blog to introduce myself, and sort of state where I currently am on my lace making adventure.

A couple of weeks ago I went to Bruges for four days. Amazing place, really beautiful! But with one major problem. every other shop there is a lace shop, and I was wandering around going 'I want to learn to make this!!' By the end of the second day there, I gave in and went onto Amazon and bought the House of Dorchester Lace-making kit, which arrived… Continue

Pictures of lace

In my small town a founding families home is now a small museum. They display some of Mrs. Borst's clothing. I was thrilled to find these dresses. I was told she ordered her clothing from overseas. I know the black dress has some type of tape lace and the other piece is Irish crochet. I am not sure on the blue dress what type it is , can someone tell me? Also how old does does magazines have to be for the copyright to no longer be valid. I have several old magazines. The one I am holding in…

Bobbin lace hat

You know how sometimes the obvious hits you? That happened to me last night. I realized that my Mom's 60th birthday is coming up in 10days. What to give for such an important milestone to a person who loves hats? Of course a hat. Many many years ago my Mom bought me a pricking for a hat. But I never got around to making it, after all it is quite the undertaking. But last night I pulled it out, taped it together and put the first part on the pillow. There are three parts the top, sides, and the… Continue

TV interview slated for April 21st - loving our lace

It's done - well almost done - on April 21st is the taping of the tv program Common Sense Connecticut. I will be interviewed for 30 minutes on Lace!  While it is a local tv station, once it is uploaded everyone will be able to tune in via the internet.

Does anyone have any additional questions I can give the interviewer ??  He doesn't think we could talk about lace for 30 minutes.....  I told him I could talk about it for 30 days!

Thanks in advance !  I'll post the link as soon…

How to Clean a Lace Bridal Gown

Lace material, especially the lace that is used for bridal gowns, is difficult to clean without ruining. The material will stain easily if cleaned wrong, fall apart if cleaned with harsh chemicals or not retain the same softness and beauty the lace bridal gown was purchased for. If you're not going to take your bridal gown to a professional dry cleaner, there are very specific ways that you should clean it to ensure it isn't ruined.…

The passing of 'Jan Stawasz'.....

I have just heard about the passing of Jan Stawasz on the 21st of this month, and I am in total shock.

Such a talented man who had so many ideas and patterns to pass on to us all.  I have both of his books, and I am forever grateful that I had heard about him.   Only 66 years of age, and already gone.

He will be greatly missed.  My prayers go out to him and his family.  I am sure…
