"This one does appear to be hand made. The half stitch does look different. Do you know exactly how they worked it?"

"Here too, the clothwork appears to be appliqued. The ground has believable honeycomb areas on the right. This is very odd. Possibly this and the 2 previous pieces used a thicker thread to weave the cloth areas (as in polychrome), or the motifs were…"

"It is so hard to see black lace in a photo. The clothwork looks like it might be appliqued. I just can't see it well enough. That flower worked in an open stitch, It looks more like torchon ground than like half stitch. But in the large size it…"

"Dear Lorelei, I tried to download all the pictures, but the system only allowed me to put 8 in the link. Yes, you are right: 7083 is a poorly made torchon lace. I hope to be able to send you a closer view of the picture. 7085 is a plain Spanish…"

"Hello Deborah and Lorelei. Sorry for the delay answering but I would like to say a word in connection with Deborah's lace. I live in Spain and here many women used to wear lace shawl or mantillas on certain occasions. I think you are absolutely…"

I cooperate with the Madrid Costume Museum (Museo del Traje)in various projects. At present I am preparing a workshop for blind people to take place in October 2014. Furthermore I am preparing a research work on some 17th century laces found in a nuns' closed convent in Spain, but this work is much depending on the nuns' goodwill ...

Welcome. Please read all the NOTES. They explain our policies, and how the software works. Join any groups that interest you. We do have one for BINCHE FLANDERS and the other continental straight laces. We also have a group for IDENTIFICATION-HISTORY which you might enjoy. Mechlin is still very rare. Take some time to explore. If you have any questions about the site, contact me and I will try to help.
