"A single repeat looks like this:
It appears in different rotations and in places one copy overlaps another copy.
The way I decide which of the many patterns to make is based on what I envision when I look at the pattern. If I can see an…"
"Still trying to identify a single repeat and failing. And still not getting bored looking at it. I know you let a computer calculate designs. What makes you choose the ones you do as bobbin lace and how do you go about it?"
This is a quasiperiodic bobbin lace ground that I designed. It repeats, but not in the usual checkerboard, brick or honeycomb manner. The pattern can go on forever, just like other grounds, but it is never exactly the same. I used a grand Venetian…
"For editing photos, I like the IrfanView program. It is free, has a pretty straightforward user interface and can handle a large variety of image formats (including some camera specific formats). It will not support your drawing requirements…"
"The right side off the images below reveals a problem with the method introduced by Veronika: the distances in the example vary from less than 3 to more than 4 mm. On the left hand the second method applied to the nerve of a leaf combined with…"
"Just tried Veronika's tip and it did not seem to work. Appeared I had several problems:
A real circle for the dot doesn't work, it should be a path.
I gave the dot just a fill, it should have at least a stroke
The (leaf)-shape path…"
I learned to tat as a child and I learned to make Bobbin Lace through the Ottawa Guild of Lacemakers. I look at ways of applying Math and Computer Science to the patterns in Continuous Bobbin Lace. I would really welcome the opportunity to discuss these ideas and my findings with experienced lacemakers.
Give us titles of lace books or articles you have written, that you want us to know about.
Welcome. Please read all the NOTES. They explain our policies, and how the software works. Join any groups that interest you. We do have a group for people who use computer programs to design lace. If you have any questions, contact me and I'll try to help.
