Beginner Pattern Sizing question

I have just started on bobbin lace using the book "The Torchon Lace workbook" by Bridget Cook.  I have completed lessons 1 and 2.  I am using Perle 5 as per instructions.  I have plenty of size 20 Lizbeth thread since I do tatting quite a bit and would like to use those threads from my stash.  Is there a rule of how much to reduce the pattern/pricking by so that I can use those threads? My plan is to try it in the thread suggested and do the pattern again in a smaller thread. Thanks,SunelaSee More

I like any lace that I can do with my hand. I prefer projects that I can carry along. Mostly will like to go smaller laces.
