Could this needle lace be from the 16th century?

I guess what I was trying to get was an opinion of how old the original lace in this collar might be.  Would it be likely to have been made before 1600? I see no edge treatment on the flat…Continue

What is this?

A neighbor gave me this and said it was her grandmother's used for tatting.  Well I know that is NOT what it is, but the lacy pattern and the bobbin-like shape of the handle makes me think it was part of something someone devised to work with lace.  It has a threaded post on the opposite side that would have been screwed into something.  Has anyone ever seen anything like it?  I am not sure the images are going to show up.  The object is about 1.5 inch long.See More

Nice to hear from you. It was so nice to meet you, too, at Sacramento - owell, - we met at the Lace Museum!!

Actually going back to tatting now is good, it is nice to have something small to sit and do now and again.  Split rings, Mock rings, and Split chains were not invented when I originally learned, - and I have just been shown how to do split rings, - and they are so useful!!  Take up tatting again - for those quiet times of waiting around - like in Dr. waiting rooms - which we seem to do a lot recently!
