Joke Sinclair commented on Lorelei Halley Administrator's group Duchesse
"It is a lovely pattern and it could certainly worked in Duchesse technique.  There is no gimp and the braid is worked in only 7 pairs, suggesting the thread is to thick for the pattern.  That said, I think the lace looks beautiful.…"

Joke Sinclair replied to Jo Edkins's discussion Query about History of Dutch Lace
"Dear Jo, I wouldn't take the painting too literally.  I have read that a woman engrossed in some type of needlework or lacemaking would indicate domestic virtue.  Painters are and I am sure were more interested in creating a…"

"That is right, I have rolled the edges.  Although it is an important feature in Withof Duchesse, rolled edges are used in many other types of bobbin lace as well.  I find it can hide some less than perfect edges."

Duchesse

Includes 18th and 19th century Brussels lace. Duchesse bobbin lace is a 19th century derivation of older and more complex Brussels laces.  Some Duchesse (often called Brussels Duchesse) contains insets of point de gaze needle lace.  Rosaline is an offshoot of Duchesse, and uses winkiepin edge, and often has needlemade rings appliqued to flower centers.See More

My favourite lace is Duchesse followed closely by Bucks-point. I am also interested in the lace caps from the Netherlands.
Give us titles of lace books or articles you have written, that you want us to know about.
Some of my patterns are published in "The Regency Collection" booklets, published by Jean Eke
