Pin pusher and lifter alternatives

Anyone have any ideas for pin pusher and or lifter alternatives. I've been using an empty mechanical pencil as a pusher but if I don't get my pressure right it bends the pins and I'm constantly afraid it will slip and I'll end up stabbing myself.   Side note: I just moved to Belgium (East Flanders) and even though I'm in the land of lace I'm having a hard time finding local sources of supplies. (My dutch isn't very good.)  I don't want to have to go all the way to Brugge to the one place I know…See More

"This is a common problem. I Angle the pins on the edges very slightly outward, and all the pins in the middle angled very slightly backwards. The few pins at the top should be very slightly angled backwards. I don't seem to have too much of a…"

"Hi Fern, it may be worth trying a trick my lace teacher told me. I now lean the pins slightly backwards, not much but a bit. That stops the lace creeping up the pins. At ledge I lean them outwards a bit. This did stop my pricking buckling and…"

How do I keep my prickings flat?

I've been working through a beginning pattern book. I'm about half way through the book and I've noticed that my prickings start out relatively flat but start bucking after a while.  It's driving me crazy and I don't know what I'm doing to cause this.  It doesn't seem to be hurting the lace any except that it creeps up the pins in places.  I don't know if I'll ever make these patterns again but I think I'll have to iron the prickings before I can reuse them.  Does anyone else have this problem…See More

I would like to learn enough about all different types of lace to be able to duplicate antique patterns as well as design new contemporary laces. My ultimate goal is to design and create a wedding veil totally by hand using the bobbin lace technique.
