Could you post some photos of the lace jewelry projects that you are planning to do in your Bobbin Bling: Metallic Lace Jewelry class at the IOLI Convention in Sacramento, Aug. 3-9? It sounds like a lot of fun, and you design such beautiful pieces.

thank you for posting these photos.  We see very little Mirecourt, and as I wrote to you, I was in doubt about its structure.  Your photos have assured me that it is as I first heard it described: a part lace, fairly coarse, with a prominent thick gimp.  But it isn't really much like Bruges Bloomwork.  The latter has a limited number of motifs, and doesn't improvize new shapes of motifs very well.  It is almost entirely static.  Mirecourt may use some of the same techniques, but there is more variety in possible designs and motifs.  Since it is different in those ways, I've added a group for it, in case you are interested.

Deborah, Mark said you had some questions about areas of specific interest to you.  I have already included Chrysanthemum lace under Bruges Bloomwork, and called it Chrysanten work.  Many years ago it was explained to me that Chrysanten work is a variety of Bloomwork.  I did take your suggestion and created a group for BOBBIN LACE JEWLERY.  Thank you.

When I set up the groups I was thinking about Mirecourt but I've had conflicting descriptions and didn't know where to put it.  Back in the 1980s I understood Mirecourt as the French version of Bloomwork, and would have included it there.  But there is a relatively recent book (I don't have a copy) on Mirecourt, and from the few pages I've seen, the author includes guipure straight lace (like a complex kind of Cluny) in the book.  What do you know about this issue?  Can you explain it to me?

Welcome.  Please read all the NOTES, which explain our policies and how the software works.  Join whatever groups interest you, post some photos of your lace.  If you have any questions, contact me and I'll try to help.
