Iam wanting to learn how to make lace. Back in the 80's my husband and I went to Malta for his sister's wedding and at the end of our trip we went to Gozo. That is where I saw an elderly lady making Maltese lace. It was the most beautiful lace I had ever seen in my life. I bought a lace shawl and handkerchiefs to bring home. So a few years ago my husband bought me a lacemaking kit for Christmas. It is very difficult to understand the instructions especially on how to put the lace on the bobbin. My husband's family still lives there and his sister is trying to find me some books and bobbins on Maltese lacemaking. I wrote to the lacemakers in the UK and they referred me to IOLI. I just applied for membership and I just put it in the mail. I hope to learn to make this wonderful art. I also like macreme, a little crocheting and I am learning how to weave bracelets with the picot stitch. I am very interested in the different styles of learning how to make lace. Not one particular style thought. It is just so beautiful!!! In the mean time I am trying to figure out how to make my Bobbin Lacemaking Kit. Thank you for having such a wonderful website.

Don't be afraid to ask questions - remember - there is No stupid question. We have all been beginners at some time, so we can all understand how hard it can seem early on. Persevere, and it will soon become a lot easier, - but be warned, - you Never stiop learning, and Never have enough time to make all the lace you want!!!!!! :) Most of us have "to do" lists that will last us for the next 3oo years or more!!!!!! :)
