magazine of patterns is beautiful but beyond my skill. The little booklet "Learning tool, Milanese lace"is perfect for me.

As I understand it, Cantu is a tape lace, but with some added elements that are significant. So if you are starting bobbin lace for the first time, I suggest beginning with tape lace (British English: braid lace). It has 80% of the techniques and working methods used in Cantu. Then when you find some instructions for Cantu, it will be only a moderate step up. Russian, Idrija and Schneeberger are all local variants of tape laces.
