"this piece is very strange. In the photo below notice the frayed area near the edge. It looks like woven cloth with some threads withdrawn. However, notice that in the shot that gives us the largest view of the whole piece, the cloth near the…"

"I would class it as Tamboured lace, as it seems to have been crocheted, not needle stitched.   Needle stitched or "woven" would indicate what I know as Limerick Lace, but the crocheted version I know as Tamboured lace. Certainly of…"

"Again good photos. Here both the pull-thread work in the center and the bobbin-lace are both definitely handmade. Neither is particularly well done, but I think that Lorelei is right, that probably the bobbin-lace isn't helped by having been…"

"Good photos! The mesh is machine made, and definitely not buratto. The needle-weaving portion looks so "messy" that I think it's machine-made also. Let's see what others think, however."

"I agree that the mesh is machine-made for sure, but I don't think it's buratto because some of the threads in both directions appear twisted. Buratto is woven by twisting pairs of weft threads between single warp threads (so the warp…"

Welcome. Please read all the NOTES. They explain our policies, and how the software works. Join any groups that interest you. (NOTES explains how.) We do have a group for IDENTIFICATION-HISTORY which I think you might enjoy. Its opening page has links to the best and most accurate online resources.

Among those are my pinterest boards, divided by the lacemaking technique and style.  https://www.pinterest.com/lynxlacelady/   You may need a pinterest account in order to see my boards, but getting an account with them is free. It is worth the trouble.

If you have any questions about our site, contact me and I'll try to help.
