The tallies have 4 pairs in them, which is not usual in hand made. It is possible to make tallies by hand with more than 2 pairs. I have seen some in Genoese laces at the Art Institute of Chicago. I have also seen some French and German Cluny type designs with more than 2 pairs, but these are rare. And the style of this lace doesn't fit with those that I have seen.  Also the half stitch section between the tallies is unusual. It is possible to get vertical straight lines if you weave in the s'Gravenmoerse manner, but the designs would be torchon type, hot like this one.
