For those who love hand made lace.
Close up of one end of the runner.
Albums: My lace, Mixed Lace.
The piece is 4 inches wide and 36½ inches long. the needlelace insert (in the ovals) are 3 inches by 2 inches.
a lovely piece, both modern and traditional.
Yes, I created the whole design. It was for the Montreal IOLI convention competition - table runners. they gave the max. dimensions, so I drew up the design to fit! I wanted to do a Mixed Lace - and this is what came out at the end!!!!! :) I had to be Very careful with the ribbon of tallies around the outside - making sure I alternated the colour. Tallies take 2 prs, so I had one pr, in each colour, and used whichever colour for the workers, and it's mate was hidden inside the tally with the other colour. Works quite well!
I tried to use a variety of stitches within the ovals in the bobbin lace - just to give variety.
I think I won 2nd for it, if I remember correctly. I gathered it up and wore it as a cap & short lappets at Convention a couple of years ago!!!!!! :) (shades of wearing mini doilies as a jabot!!! )
Such an interesting combination of elements. Did you create the bobbin lace pattern as well as the needle lace? Or did you just substitute the needle lace insert for something else that was in the original?
