Vibeke

THANK YOU for that information.  Very interesting to know its source.  I wonder if those pattern folios are still available.

This pattern was published in "De Linnenkast 3", Eenwenoude kanten uit Noord-Nederland. OIDFA Nederland 1998. The original lace is in the Museum 't Hoogeland, Warffum.

The OIDFA Work Group ‘Linnenkast’ was established to study lace found in the household linen cupboards of the Northern Netherlands, and published five folders containing patterns of the laces, together with pictures of old and reconstructed examples.

Sneeuwpoppen should mean Snowmen, Sneeuw = snow, poppen = dolls.

Quite a few of the laces reconstructed by the group were originally made freehand - this is probably one of them - but they put in pins as they felt like.

It looks like an antique lace.

No, there were pins inside the 'ring pairs' that are just partially around the cloth stitch areas.  I really don't know what kind of lace to call it, since it does have those partial ring pairs, but no grounds or plaits.  It was a free pattern posted on OIDFA's old website before they rehosted, and all it had with it was the word "Sneeuwpoppen" (which I think is the title) and number of pairs etc., so I think it's a modern design.  The pricking looked more like old Flanders or the Antwerp laces than the finished lace does.

Is this one a freehand lace design?
