IOLI-PROFICIENCY-PROGRAM

IOLI has 6 proficiency programs at present. Below is a brief description of each. I have set up a "page" or a DISCUSSION for each one in the group that deals with that type of lace. From Louise Colgan (August 2015).

Torchon Technical Proficiency:  Work 23 designs in Torchon Lace which are progressive in difficulty; answer questions related to the pieces and document your work.  Include a written introduction to Torchon Lace, bibliography, and lacemaker’s statement.

Torchon Mastery:
Prepare multiple original designs for a list of Torchon design elements; reconstruct a pricking for a given sample of old lace.

Tape Lace Proficiency:  Work 13 pieces of Tape Lace including examples of Milanese, Schneeberger, Russian, and Idrija laces.  Answer questions related to the pieces and document your work.  Include a written introduction to the laces, bibliography, and lacemaker’s statement.

Point Ground Proficiency:  Work 10 pieces of Point Ground Lace including examples of Bucks Point, Tønder, Polychrome, Chantilly and Blonde laces.  Answer questions related to the pieces and document your work.  Include a written introduction to Point Ground Lace, bibliography, and lacemaker’s statement.

Tatting Technical Proficiency:  Work 33 pieces of Tatted Lace.  Answer questions related to the pieces and document your work.  Include a written introduction to Ttted Lce, bibliography, and lacemaker’s statement.

Advanced Study of Lace:  Design a program in which you work representative samples of a lace or lace-related topic of your personal interest.  Submit a proposal for your project to the I.O.L.I. Proficiency Program Committee for approval before you start.  The work in your portfolio should be sufficient to support your proficiency in the area.

NOTE:  Patterns designed by other lacemakers are included in the Torchon Technical, Tape Lace, Point Ground, and Tatting Journals.  The Torchon Mastery program requires original design work to be submitted by the candidate.

Sue M. suggested that a group for all the proficiency programs would be a good idea. I agree. The problem was to find a way to set something up that would be easy to find. The links above take you to pages or discussion about each of the programs. I have put the 2 torchon ones together in an already existing discussion. The tape lace one and the point ground one also had  previously existing discussion. I have also put the same list on the opening page of the IOLI group, in an effort to cross reference and put links in places where people are most likely to look.  When I get more information on the details of each program I will add them. Louise just started a vacation so we won't get more details until she returns. I'll give her 3 or 4 weeks before I start pestering her again. She responded very quickly to my request for info. So far we know most about the point ground program.
