Knitted Lace and Lace Knitting

Knitted lace can be made into clothing, veils and shawls, tablecloths.  And it can use very fine yarns.  I've heard that “lace knitting” is patterned on one side, and plain knitting on all the reverse rows; whereas “knitted lace” has pattern on all the rows.

Yes, that is correct.  Unfortunately few people signed up for Galina's classes so they were cancelled.  We will be very happy to have you register for Diane Willett's Easter eggs.  There are also seats available in her beginning class.  Encourage your friends to sign up too!

I checked the IOLI website and the Orenburg classes are cancelled.  The knitted Easter eggs were still there and not filled.

The I.O.L.I. convention at Coralville, Iowa in July will offer knitted lace classes.  Diane Willett will teach beginning lace knitting in the morning and knitted Easter eggs in the afternoon.  Galina Khmeleva will teach Orenburg lace design in the morning and Intarsia lace design strategies in the afternoon.  She teaches spinning the Orenburg way on Thursday.  If you haven't looked at the class offerings, please go to I.O.L.I. 2015 Classes to read the class descriptions.  You can click on the pictures and the names of the teachers to get additional detail.  I hope to see you at convention.

This is my Haapsalu shawl. Centre knit in one piece starting from short edge. Border knit in two sections, each section with a corner, then seamed on. Really the border should be deeper but I ran out of yarn (the yarn is BC Garn Baby Alpaca).

Our members who do not have a ravelry account will not be able to see your shawl. I do have an account, so I could see it, after I signed in. It is beautiful. You could post it on our site. The NOTE on PHOTOS will explain how to do that.

I have the Haapsalu book and it's sequel, both beautiful 'coffee table' style books with lots about the local area and its history as well as gorgeous pictures of shawls. I've only knit one shawl from the first book which I struggled with as it was at the top of my skill level plus I ran  out of yarn and had to modify my pattern. Here's a link to the Lily of the Valley shawl I made:
