Information

Irish Crochet and Crochetted Lace

Irish crochet is made with a typical crochet hook, but always includes shaped motifs and may have some raised cords or layered bits.  It is usually held together with a chain stitch mesh with picot loops decorating the chains.  The group includes other forms of crochetted lace.

The world famous Irish Crochet teacher, Maire Treanor is coming to New York to teach a class at Pearl Studio in Manhattan, March 29th, 10-5.Those interested can register with Maire, at maireslace@gmail.com or with NYCCrochetGuild@gmail.com. She says they can buy supplies from her or they can see what they need in the registration form. This is another one of these things where I wonder how it can be that such a distinguished teacher, and such a good opportunity is still not filled up a week before the class.  I have to think that when an Irish crochet celebrity comes to New York and there are still places in her class it represents a communication problem in the lace world  But, of couse, that is why we started this NIng site.

One of the classes being offerred at convention this year is Irish crochet. Recently the Russians have been using this technique a lot to make spectacular one-of-a-kind clothing. Many years ago I did a fair amount of crochet, but never Irish crochet. Check out the links in the resources box above for ideas.

One of the moderators on the ravelry Irish crochet lovers site has posted detailed instructions for a fairly complex motif they are all working on this month.

A Russian language website with diagrams of lots of crochet motifs.  You have to understand their symbol code to use the diagrams..

Lorelei, Thanks for sharing. I have found by clicking on the pics just below the header, there are instructions for what is in the pic. Sometimes it is a graph pattern, others it is just clear step by step photos. Each time I click on your link I get a different set of pics, hence there is lots of instructions on that page.Just Yummy

A pattern for a leaf.  Web page is Russian, but instructions are by a modern diagram, so should be easier to understand:
