Hi, I am a beginner working my way through the Beginners Guide to Bobbin Lace book and have just started the trails bookmark.  I previously had tried a bookmark which included chevron type shapes from another beginner's book.  I understand that pairs of bobbins need to be fed in from the ground or dropped off in the ground in order to make the shape or leave the shape to continue the ground as this has been explained to me by a friend who does torchon lace.  Is there a description of this anywhere please so that I can understand it better as I understand there are also blind pins where pairs are neither fed in or dropped off and I suppose I want a way of recognising when to do what?  Thanks for any help anyone can give on this.

Hello.  For me, the easiest way to tell is to pick up the possible pair and pull it over to the pinhole. Even though Cloth Stitch is worked horizontally, pairs are still entering and leaving diagonally so it is obvious when a pair needs to enter or leave.  I hope this helps.

On this piece you can follow the colors to see how pairs enter and leave the cloth stitch section. Most of the time, in torchon, pairs leave at a pin directly below the pin where they entered.

Here is another example. Follow the colored lines  to see how pairs enter and leave the diamond motif.

Thank you, Jane and Lorelei for all your help.
