Hey all you lovely lacer's.

Today i got busy and made myself some cloths.

I couldnt find the blue that suited me, so i bought some 100% cotton raw calico and i dyed it myself to this lovely blue, Its dark enough and the colour is "matte" rather than some colours of premade fabrics that seem to have a shine even after years of use.

I dyed it with RIT dye, which from my experience is a very very colourfast dye. I personally have used it to dye stripes on a white linen wedding dress with no running or bleeding.

I washed these 3 times (3 times on the hot cotton cycle) dont worry about water. its all recycled at our place.

I hemmed it with a wider hem than i usually would because i feel it sits on the pillow better and doesn't require wonderweb.

I was just so proud of my work i wanted to show you.

Lovely! I need new ones, too. I love the hem you did, which would keep the edge clear of extra thread that would catch. Good job!!!

Thankyou! I did the extra hem just for that reason. I havent actually made any lace yet. but i have practised the movements and such. I have done a lot of weaving and stuff in the past so i figured the longer hem would help.

If you do try to make any like this. Put some cheap vodka in a spray bottle. and spray the fabric till damp 10 mins before ironing the hem down. makes the fabric stiffer and you will get a stiffer fold.

Thanks for the tip. Good luck with your lace, too. It's the best addiction one can have!

Lovely!  Thanks for the tips.

And those cloths are very important too.  Nice mitered corner on it. Good job!

So, do you now have all your equipment and supplies ready to start?

Well done Joseph. that looks very good.

As you have done some weaving - you will soon be making good bobbin lace, as this craft is just Off Loom weaving.

I have not heard of spraying vodka on cloth to stiffen it, though. Gosh!...!!!

Hi, that come out great. I usually buy the fabric napkins on seasonal sales, they are good and cheap. Usually embroider something on them and voila, great gift for a new lacemaker.
