After successfully making a pillow using SM blue Styrofoam carved the covered with a layer of felted blanket and cotton cover, I have been exploring how to make a felt pillow.

I sourced an industrial felt supplier (I live in Canada) and took my pins there yesterday to try in their different grades of felt.  F-1 is the hardest grade, then it goes up to F-50's for the softest grades.  The other thing I learned is that some grades are mostly wool (highest is 95%), while other grades go down as low as 50%.

After trying the pins, the F-5 grade, 95% wool, seemed the best.  The F-7 grade, 80% wool, is almost as good but the lower wool content seems to make the pins not glide in quite as smoothly.

So I am thinking of getting 1/4" pieces and layering them to make a pillow.  Although the thicker grade might be good, they are extremely expensive and also hard to cut, so I am thinking that layering might be ok, and eventually the pins would felt the layers together.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has tried this?

I recently acquired an ethafoam pillow, and although I know it will work, I really prefer the feel of pinning into wool, in face even my homemade blanket covered foam I'm liking better than the ethafoam.

Anyway, please give me any comments from all you experienced lacemakers, I am a beginner.
