Comparing Lace threads

I want ro recomend this new book  from Martina Wolter-Kampann

Very useful is the internet database where always new threads are meassured and listed.

Lace threads.jpg

A compilation of all my measurements
of thread thickness in dD which I
have put together to date from the book
»Thread and Pricking: a Partnership«
and all its supplements in an easy-to use
form. You will find more than 800 yarns
in it.
With the book you get also a personal
code. With this code you can get access
to our internet database, where you can
find the latest measurement results of
new yarns.

lace threads in dD

here you can find more inromation how th book and the database works.

If you have threads which are not listed just contact Martina Wolter-Kampmann and she tells you what to do to get this thread meassured.

I realy would not miss the book and the database anymore

Of course you can print a copy for yourself.

Yes i clicked twice on the thread equivalents and got a page nearly half the size, did make me laugh though!

Would it be OK if i did a print for myself of this threads equivalent chart, i think it would help me alot, even though i have been doing Bobbin lace for over 10 years i still have not learn much about thread sizes. I just bought a whole heap of 100/2 80/2 60/2 and perle No12 and 8 and just got on with what i had.

This Princess lace i too recieved for Josco lace supplies and was so taken with how small this Princess lace really is, the coin is an inch wide so hopefully if i can make up a pattern for this Princess lace I will use the 185/2 Egyptian thread.

Oh heaven help me - I ordered from Josco Lace supplies in Australia a reel of 185/2 Optic white thread, its like the thickeness of a hair!! I knew i had done most of my patterns with too thick a thread and loved the look of the honeycomb stitch with finer threads, really you can hardly see this thread! I wound my bobbins which is only 13 for the same pattern i was doing with 60/2 and a gimp of perle No 8 and felt i could hardly detect the gimp thread. Well i only had to half wind the bobbins to have probably way more than enough!

Another set of thread equivalents from Sieglinde Eckstein. Click twice on the image to get the full size, readable.

Another place for those finer threads.

The first lot of threads on the list saying Bart and Francis, are those threads really up to 200/2 fineness or is this a different measurement. Why i am so interested is because any lace i have been making seems to look (strangled) and i think this is because the threads i choose are too thick. Also seeing the honeycomb stitches used on many Buckspoint patterns do make the stitch look so beautiful with the fine threads.

This is such a wonderful site for the Egyptian threads, they even go up to 185/2 gassed, what does the (gassed) part mean, is it the prceedure they use to make the thread so fine perhaps.

Are these the finer threads.

I don't think there is any way i will find closer than the address you gave me.
