Needle Lace

True needlelace is made only with needle and thread, on a temporary backing.

Go to http://needlelacetalk.ning.com  for 2 years' worth of discussion, and lots of photos.

Since needlelacetalk is also a ning network, you can use the same email address and password for NEEDLELACETALK that you use here on ioli.

NEEDLELACETALK

NEEDLELACETALK is a network I created on ning in February of 2010, for true needlelace.

http://needlelacetalk.ning.com

Needlelacetalk includes reticello, Pag, Turkish/Armenian oya, and puncetto, as well as traditional western European needle laces such as Alencon, point de gaze and gros point.

NEEDLELACETALK also has tutorials for beginners, and active groups for reticello and aemilia ars.

Margaret Ruhland, a member of needlelacetalk, has recently added a great many close up photos of antique needle laces in her collection.  Worth looking at:    http://needlelacetalk.ning.com/photo/album/listForOwner?screenName=10ruuhbhzdyhd

Each of her albums is a different piece.

Loretta Holzberger's Wild Rose class at the I.O.L.I. convention in Coralville this summer is already filled!  There are still seats available in Loretta's afternoon class.  It is a 12" square sampler which is inspired by a small tablecloth at the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.  Much of the piece is drawn work with needleweaving.  There are areas of needlelace and satin stitches.  Loretta is also teaching a 3-dimensional needlelace Monarch buttterfly on Thursday.  For details go to I.O.L.I. 2015 Classes.  While you are there, look at Nancy Nehring's Romanian point lace necklace which may be made with needlelace fillings.

The Bebilla flowers book is now available from some booksellers. Amazon won't be selling it till February, I am told, but I think Book Depository has it available now.

Here is a free Needle lace bookmark with a flower in it, quite unusual, the pattern has really good instructions.

Just had a good look at Margaret Ruhlands collection of Needlelace. Just love the sampler and how she did those little people!

I think the book is in the process of being printed at the moment. I will certainly let you know when it becomes available., - as I am sure Elena will let me know, so I can pass it on !!

I was privileged to be asked to proof read a book on Bebilla Flowers written by Elena Dickson. I have posted 4 of my flowers in the Photos section.

I had not done Bebilla lace before, but following Elena's Excellent instructions and diagrams I was able to complete all the flowers successfully. They were fun to make, although it was a big learning curve! Each flower has a photo of the garden flower, and a photo of Elena's Bebilla flower, followed by the instructions and diagrams. Each flower also has a bookmark flower with instructions.  part of the book deals with universal flowers - Daffodil, Fuchsia, Carnation etc, and the other part has some Australian native flowers - Fringe Lily  Cooktown Orchid,  Banksia etc.. There are ideas for projects at the back of the book.

Here is a photo of the cover -
