Hi, my name is Megan, and I have started out learning Irish Crochet very recently. I am fascinated by the art, and have been studying Russian work, training my mind and eyes with a goal of creating a jacket and other pieces.

So far, I have tried the padding cord in two different kinds of edging. Both motif patterns came from the following book:

"Irish Crochet Lace Motifs Collected And Described By Eithne D'Arcy"

I had the edging on the purple 9 Ring Flower once, but the first set got very scrunched, so after giving myself a long break from that very challenging edging, I went back to redo it. The second piece, the green and gold triad described in Ms D'Arcy's book as a shamrock with scrolls also uses a padding cord, but was actually much easier. I will be creating more of this sort of thing as time goes on, it is very challenging, so I tend to take my time.

Ms D'Arcy's book is very helpful for the first time learner, as motifs are described in steps rather than rows, and good photos of the steps are included.

Hello Megan! You certainly did a fine job on the motifs. I am not familiar with the book you are working with, but I am most certainly going to check it out. I am currently working on a shawl; I started the shawl in January and just began working on the bottom edging; its a very slow process but well worth it!

The edging on the 2nd one is spectacular. Keep going.

An excellent start. I look forward to following your progress on this.

Oh thank you! I wanted to see if I could do the scrolls, the padding cord doubles back on the outer ring. It was actually much easier than the flower, on which the padding cord is very difficult to control if you crochet from back to front.
