While pondering the previous lace dress, I came across this piece. I feel that the design is a very Spanish looking one. But is there a name for this kind of design? Any information about where it was made would be welcome. This one is identified as 19th century. Horrifyingly, I read in Wardle, Victorian Lace, That Lefebure "was the one who introduced the manufacture of Blondes mates for export to Spain and Spanish America and succeeded in building up a flourishing trade trade based on a careful study of the types of design fashionable in those countries."

These are quite intriguing! I also think the designs look Moorish, but there seems to be an intentional heart design running horizontally. Those aren't at all Moorish/Islamic. What is also very interesting is multiple use of mirror images. There are mirrors images both vertically and horizontally. It seems that the section of horizontal spools/candlesticks at the lower 1/3 run could be the center of a shawl. The last part cut off. The border is somewhat mirrored and runs around the piece. No gathering of the corner! Putting it pretty accurately at 19th century. It would be very fast to make, in that the mirrored images don't flow and the lacemaker/s could quickly do repeat motives on a larger scale.

The part that looks like an inverted fleur de lis or vase could easily be seen today in the laces of Museu Mares de la Punta

This is fun! I'll look for more info...

It does look Spanish, but I have no ideas about more specificity. The overall photo - #5 - is just too repetitious for beauty.
