I thought it might be useful to post a map of part of the lace making world. This google map shows part of modern Belgium. The red balloon i the town of Mechelen/Mechlin/Malines. It is haflway between Antwerp and Brussels. Also notice that Turnhout is just at the top of the screen near the right, not too far from Antwerp. (Both Antwerp and Turnhout produced Paris ground laces.

If you back off just a bit, you will see the town of Valenciennes at the bottom of the map leftwards.

These Goggle maps are amazing, and I love that one can enlarge, or go  more distant at will.

Is That where Mechlin is?!!

That odd red line halfway between Antwerp and Brussels is Mechelen. If you move in or out you will see the town name. The names disappear or reappear depending on resolution.

This one has Turnhout at the top of the screen, rightwards. Valenciennes is at the bottom of the screen leftwards. Binche is straight east of Valenciennes. Antwerp and Brussels are big enough to be obvious.
