For those who love hand made lace.
I'm tempted to say that this is chemical lace (Schiffli Lace) because the thin lines seem a bit coggly. I'm not an expert, though. Here are some more Schiffi lace:
If I'm right, that you can't make it! It's done by embroidering on a special material which is then dissolved away.
Possibly you could do something similar using crochet. But crochet is definitely outside my comfort zone!
It is so hard to see detail on black lace. But I think Jo is probably right. The bumpiness of the thin lines suggests chemical lace (Schiffli). I think the design attempts to imitate Cluny bobbin lace. But it isn't bobbin.
Chemical lace has a fuzziness, bumpy lines. The back side and front side look quite different. This album has close ups of lots of little bits of lace, so you can compare one construction method to another in terms of detailed thread paths. It might help.
