For those who love hand made lace.
Lacy embroideries worked on woven fabric.
Hardanger embroidery is a form of cutwork and drawn thread work. It was originally the Norwegian version of cutwork but has become very popular among embroiderers around the world. Designs are based on empty squares and rectangles with blocks of satin stitches, called kloster blocks, to bind and secure the cut edges.
Pulled thread work collects the fabric threads into clumps by stitching with strong tension, leaving a pattern of holes. No fabric threads are removed.
Drawn thread work removes some fabric threads and embellishes the thinned out areas.

Are ALL Hardanger patterns made on graph paper with a darker line every 10 squares? Or would every five squares be equally acceptable? I can do either one, just wondering whether there is a…Continue

I've always done my Hardanger in the hand (tried a hoop and didn't like it), but after following an embroidery blog for a while, I'm starting to wonder whether an embroidery frame would be helpful. …Continue

Lefkaritika, or Lefkara lace, originated in Cyprus and is very similar in many respects to Hardanger. I swore I wasn't going to get into another drawn-thread type of lace (I already do Hardanger),…Continue

Thank you Donna and Lorelei for you welcome comments!
Now I'm looking through a large DMC Library file of Hardanger Embroideries edited by Th. DeDillmont from the online Antique Pattern Library. I think I'll choose a section of one of the designs that will give me something additional to learn. Thanks again.

Will do, Lorelei. The buttonhole surround is finished and I'm doing the small eyelets at either end today. There's still more fun to go.

Please post a photo of the finished work. I would love to see it.
Hello Lorelei, I'm learning more about Hardanger by stitching this group's design of yours. Thank you for offering it to us.
I've completed the klosters and other elements and am now underway with the buttonhole stitch outline. Then more fun with additional eyelets, careful cutting, and weaving.

What a lovely mat, Robert. What a lucky sister you have,. I hope she appreciated it.
This was posted today on facebook. New variegated colors in DMC floss, and presumably, pearl 5.
Robert -- BEAUTIFUL. Please post it also to our PHOTOS section, so we can find it easily in the future. Paragraph 5 in this NOTE explains how to do that.
Hardanger is great fun. I enjoy it, too.
I have been doing Hardanger since around 1988 or so. I have some things in Pinterest.
