I have just finished my first fan...and am wondering how to fix it to the fan sticks. Glue?  I hate the idea of gluing my lace...Appreciate your advice

A beautiful lace.

For attaching, I would also shudder at the thought of glue. Do the fansticks have little holes drilled in them? If so you could use needle and thread to tack the lace to the sticks.  If there are no holes you could make some. There are super fine drill bits 1 mm or less (for miniature work). And there are little drills that take the drill on one end. You simple push the other end and that drives the drill into the wood. I have one that is about 5 inches long.

I have never made a fan or worked with fan sticks. So all of this isn't based on direct personal experience. Surely we have other members who have faced the same problem, and I would like to hear their thoughts, too.

I drilled holes in some small plastic fan sticks, and sewed the fan leaf on. I have also used Wall Paper glue, as it is water soluble and will wash out. Christine Springett recommended this way, in her original booklet on Designing and Mounting Fans.

Your fan is Very pretty. Well done. I hope you enjoyed making it, and will make lots more!  - And don

t forget to flaunt it, and use it occasionally!! :)
