For those who love hand made lace.
Would anyone be interested in a Binche workshop at Kantcentrum? It's only 15 euros/person per day which is only about $17. I thought about 5-7 days minimum or so would be good, or whatever the consensus is, I'm totally flexible. The airfare I found was about $850 if we had lead-time to order. What are some thoughts?
Hi Clay! I just emailed Kantcentrum this morning with basically the same questions. We can certainly plan any sight-seeing we'd like for outside the workshop timeframe--either before we start or after it's over or take a "breather" half way through. But whatever everyone wants is fine with me. I'm extremely easy-going. How many days of class do you feel would be good for you? How many days for sight-seeing? Do you have a certain teacher you'd prefer? Feel free to contact the center directly if you'd like at: firstname.lastname@example.org
If someone is a "planner" and wants to jump in, please be my guest! :) I just happened to have looked on the website and saw that they actually had some particulars about setting up a custom workshop, and figured this was definitely the place to put it out for discussion. Below is the info from the site:
Would you like to explore your choice of lace type or go deeper into a certain lace with a group, small society, bobbin lace club or other organisation? No problem. The Kantcentrum offers a tailor-made workshop, given by one of our tutors who specialises in the chosen lace. Tell us what you want to achieve and above all describe the group’s level in the chosen lace and we will ensure an exciting initiation or more advanced session in the chosen lace type."
Sounds wonderful. I hope it happens. I won't be able to attend, but will be insanely jealous of those who do.

Hi Beth! This sounds great! Who would be teaching this? Where would we stay! Will time for sight-seeing be planned?
Sorry, I had only seen one mention of workshop prices, which was Option 2. The private workshop (Option 1 at approx. $8/hour) is more detailed in the answer from Kantcentrum below. Also, there is a link for a tour/sight-seeing company on their site at: WALKING TOURS. 3 are going from my lace group--Lost Art Lacers of North Jersey--Lee Daly, past president of IOLI and Pat Morris, teacher for 35+ years, and myself. I'm going to post on the IOLI Facebook page as well.
We have two options:
1) A private workshop
- This requires a minimum of 7 persons
- Price is € 7,00/hour
- Course must be held between Monday – Friday, 9h30 – 16h30
- You can follow Binche but everyone joining must be advanced in making Torchon lace
2) Blitz workshop
- Price is € 15/PP, with a minimum of € 100,00
- Here you will be making a bookmark learning the basic stitches (2 hours)
- Course must be held between Monday – Friday, start between 9h30 – 15h00
For your other question about group packing you are best to check the website of City of Bruges.
We are a private museum so we don’t have much combined for offer."
Hi Beth, Just saw this. Did you guys do it?. --Nancy
