For those who love hand made lace.
I have been admiring the work of Daniela Banatova, and trying to figure out why I like it so much. For one thing, the colors are very luminous. What kind of thread do you use, Daniela?
Examining both Cosmic Energy and Tao, the pieces are so effective is that the feature strong lines worked denesely, which remind me of cell walls. The interior fillings are very light. Are the different textures of the interior fillings achieved purely by the use of color and stitch or is the thread actually of different thicknesses?
I also like Daniela's work. I think it shows how tape lace technique can be used for very modern work.
Devon, thank you for your nice compliment. I am glad that you like my work.
Yes I am using material of different thickness . When I need some part to be "poetic" light I am using sawing thread,
which in contrast with crochet thread is helping me to give lace feeling of life, If I can say that this way.
What is your creative process? Do you draw a very detailed picture of what you are going to do, even down to the passing of the workers in the mesh areas, or do you draw the outlines and then work out various details during the process? Do you anticipate the color of the matte on which the piece will be shown, or framed, during the creative process, or do you assume it will be framed against white?
Do you show your work in galleries? Enter contests? Sell it?
Devon I just draw lines and than I am modifying colors and pattern in different areas. I am using painters approach to the lace. I like to be free and create way which I would be painting picture. Bobbin lace is very nice graphic technique, you can use many effect which you would use, if you would be creating graphic. You can play with colors and space.
When I am making lace I do not worry about color of matte. When lace is done,. I will chose color of the matte which is best for it. Now you can find so many colors of matte paper in the store.
