For those who love hand made lace.
In response to Veronika Irvine's diagonal modern grounds I found some existing, apparently traditional (but rare) rose ground variants which have strong diagonal lines. The first is a pdf file I created from pages in the first book of ground by Cook & Stott.
I set up a pdf file with 3 rose grounds from Cook & Stott THE BOOK OF BOBBIN LACE STITCHES, Bransford, Watertown Mass., 1980. Pages 60, 66, 67.
The 2nd is part one of DMC's torchon bobbin lace book, which also has 3 virgin ground variants with strong diagonals.
There are 3 in the DMC book of torchon. Part 1 pages 35, 37 and 40
Thank you for the references. I had seen the grounds in Cook and Stott but was not familiar with the DMC torchon book.
It is interesting to see the grounds described in the DMC torchon book - talk about a picture being worth a thousand words! The hand drawn examples are extraordinarily detailed and impressive.
