Books to learn the technique:

Edna Sutton BRUGES FLOWER LACE, London, Dryad Press, 1986      She explains all the basic movements: cloth stitch, half stitch, double stitch, replacing a thread, knotted picots, leaf tallies, hanging in new pairs, various kinds of sewings, back stitch, false plait, crossing braids/tapes, windmill crossing, dividing a braid, tying off.  She explains how to do all the basic flower and leaf motifs, and scrolls, used in this type of lace.  14 patterns.

J.E.H. Rombach-de-Kievid BRUGS BLOEMWERK, Terra Zutphen 1984.  In Dutch, but the diagrams explain everything. 26 patterns, very graceful designs.

Vera Cockuyt THE TECHNIQUE OF BLOEMWORK, self published 1983. Explanations are mostly verbal, fewer diagrams than the previous two.  8 very traditional patterns.

Jean Hardy AN INTRODUCTION TO BRUGES LACE.  publ by The Lace Guild.

Patricia Bury BRUGGE BLOEMWERK.  I haven't seen it.

Patterns:

Edna Sutton DESIGNING FOR BRUGES FLOWER LACE. Dryad, 1987.  This book actually has 23 patterns.

Sonia Vanoosterwijck SYLLABUS GROF (BRUGS) BLOEMWERK, Kantcentrum 1996.  In 4 languages. 8 patterns.  Has an extensive technical section.

Cathleen Belleville Chrysanthemum Lace  An Introduction to Chrysanthemum Lace

In her Overview, Cathy says this type of lace is a tape-lace variant closely related to Russian and Milanese style laces.  Her books are very detailed and well thought out.

Has anyone seen this book?   "An Introduction to Bruges Lace" by Jean Hardy.  How many patterns? Publication date? Is it a teaching book or a pattern book?
