Definitely do not give up Bobbin Lace, Sandra.  It can seem very confusing at the beginning, especially if you do not have a teacher, but learning from books.  Post your lost comment again. sometimes they disappear into the ether, so just re-post it, and I am sure we can help!

I meant - did you actually have a specific problem with making your lace (as opposed to not finding a lace group locally)?

Comment by Sandra Popek on March 31, 2017 at 5:22pm

Posted a comment 20 hours ago and then someone else had some of the same problem. She posted he coment which she carried on a conversation with and my comment just got lost in the sea of other post.  I don't know if there is rules for posting your comment again or is something telling me I am not suppose to learn Bobbin Lace

What is frustrating you, Sandra? Perhaps we can help!

Comment by Sandra Popek on March 31, 2017 at 12:48pm

I am totally frustrated! Maybe I am not meant to learn Bobbin Lace!

I too am using books but I could make so much more progress and have so much more fun with people!

I, too, understand.  I taught myself bobbin lace from books (and using Jo's site)since I could find no teachers.  I love connecting with other lacers and can do so a couple times a year at different events we travel to (nothing local to me in SW Ohio), but otherwise it's been a lonely road.   I teach now in the hopes starting out more bobbin lacers and perhaps building new lace communities!

I am in the northern central part of NH. I have talked to that group in Mass and intended to make it to a meeting or two but it is a 2 hour+ drive each way, and depending on where exactly they are holding the meetings. I just haven't made it to one. If someone was closer it would be so much easier!  I would love to indoctrinate a whole bunch of locals into the wonderfulness of bobbin lace. I describe it as a cross between a craft and a puzzle and most of us crafters also love puzzles so it is an easy sell in my mind....

LIsa Davy, what part of NH do you live in?  If it is the southern part, then there is a group that meets in Massachusetts in the 495/128 corridor.  Check out for more information.  I used to live in NH and loved it there!

There is such a paucity of bobbin lace teachers in my area too.  For that matter, even other lacers!  I traveled 3 hours to a teacher in Vermont one day.  She was awesome, but too far to go on a regular basis.  I am in New Hampshire.  If anyone knows of any teachers, groups, individuals.... I am desperate too!
