On other forums there is a place for listing groups and people willing to teach.  I've noticed that there is a bit of talk about having tutorials online; I think that is great!  However, I think we would all agree that sometimes you really need a live person to help you.  Perhaps we could create a listing page in the Beginners group where those willing to teach/aid beginners could list locals so that a PM could be sent to a specific person.  Or that those looking could find a local lace group.

Just a thought.  Any other ideas?

I set up a page like that on NEEDLELACETALK but it didn't go very far.  There are more bobbin lacers so it might work better in this context.  Let me think about where to put it.

But there is another way to find people near you.  When you all signed up you were required to give geographical location.  That was so that the software's search function would work.

Go to MEMBERS.

On the left, just above the member list, is a search slot.

Click on ADVANCED SEARCH.

It will take you to a new screen.

The country slot has a down arrow. Click the down arrow and select the country from the list.

You can refine it further by typing in a city, or a state or province.

Click search.

Of course you are asking specifically for teachers.  This kind of search won't tell you that.  But it is a start.

I'll think about the other thing.  You know, it occurs to me that there is a simple way for the software to do it for us.

My idea worked.  I just tried it.

I added something to the profile questions.  One was " what is your primary lace interest. Check more that one"  I added "lace teacher" to the other 3 choices.  Now you can do an advanced search not only on geographical location, as I described in my previous comment, but you can add lace teacher or one of the other categories to the country and city search.

All it requires now is for every member to go back to their profile and answer that question.

Look for the box with your name on it.  Click on SETTINGS. In the center column, about halfway down, are the profile questions.  Click the ones that apply, especially if you are willing to teach.

Click SAVE.

Hi

I just want to report that 21 members have reponded to my request for editing their profile to indicate they are willing to teach.  Thank you all for responding.  I hope that more of our members will also respond, and eventually we will have a list of teachers scattered world wide (well, perhaps I'm being a little melodramatic).
