For those who love hand made lace.
Does anyone know of a place I can get a book on how to do Vologda Lace. All the ones I have seen which includes even a textbook with step by step how too's... are written in Russian. I need one in English but can't seem to find any.
Londa - our BOBBIN MADE TAPE LACE group has a recommended book list. There are 3 items which will be helpful to you, although none of them fit your requirements exactly.
The DMC book is available as a free download. The Karpenko teaches the basics without any words at all. It shows sequential diagrams that explain what to do quite clearly. Also the Lia Baumeister DVD. I have not seen it but she has lessons currently in the IOLI bulletin and they are quite good.
I also check Van Sciver Bobbin Lace, which has a good book list. But nothing there fits exactly. But here is the link anyway.
Also check LaceNews on YouTube. She has collected videos on technique, sorted geographically. There may be something Russian. Just ignore the language and try to follow the video.
The internet has made the exchange of information astronomically better then when i started out with lace. But there is still a lot of searching involved. It is like walking into a library which has no markings on the shelves or the books.
Thank you, I will check them out.
If memory serves, I believe there is a book on Vologda by Vera Cockyut. Self-published, comb binding, orange paper cover. When I checked IOLI library, I did not see it listed so I hope I'm not having a senior moment. Once upon a time, I took a Vologda class from Vera & we used that text. Her angel patterns are adorable!
