For those who love hand made lace.
Hello, I recently acquired this gorgeous tablecloth but I need help in identifying the type of lace.
Thank you so much,
It is beautiful. I haven't seen such large pieces of this type. This is of the SOL LACE type. It is made in several areas of the world, most often in Spain or areas of Spanish culture. Examples would be Teneriffe, Nanduti, Hvar. But I won't venture to guess about the date or country of origin.
This piece appears to be made as part of a woven cloth. But it can be made as free standing motifs, using some kind of template, such as cardboard, plastic or wood. A base of spokes, like the spokes of a wheel, is laid down first, then various kinds of weaving stitches or other embroidery stitches clump the spokes together.
Here are more examples of this kind of work.
