For those who love hand made lace.
Interesting. That lace is very hard to judge. Some aspects look like hand made bobbin lace, but other aspects are questionable. The dragons/dinosaurs are fascinating. The clothwork inside those motifs looks like legitimate hand made bobbin lace. But the thick gimp thread which outlines the motifs doesn't look right. It seems to lie on the surface of the lace, or perhaps more prominently on the front side, and less so on the reverse. In hand made bobbin lace the gimp thread would be exactly equal on front and back and would not stand out in relief. Another problem is the picots on the edge. Just inside the picot line is a thickish vertical line. In handmade bobbin lace that area would look exactly like the vertical lines in the footside. Also the picots look like a single thread. In the hand made version they would be a pair of threads twisted together.
If we had a photo a bit more close up, so we could see the individual threads, I could give a more definite identification. As to age, whether hand made or machine made, the design is something believable for 20th century. I cannot believe dragons or dinosaurs for 19th century or earlier.
